In the “Earth Laughs In Flowers” series LaChapelle shows an explicit compositional affinity to Baroque floral still life but transfers the genre from painting to photography. The artist employs art historical visual traditions, but he also translates them into visual metaphor of and for our time.

Randy Mora (b.1986) is a self-taught artist and illustrator currently working in Bogotá, Colombia. He makes elegant cut and paste collage mixing classical and vintage images with floral, mechanical and anatomical elements. He then scans the work and uses Photoshop to create pieces which are both beautiful and surprsing, unsettling.

Saana Wang ( b. Helsinki, 1979), lives and works in New York. Her “Hujialou” series is a captivating combination of documentary and staged photography referring to the district of the same name in eastern Beijing and depicting decrepit interiors that speak of times past. She documents both the rapid changes of urban scenery while capturing the residences that were once built for the working-class and followed the idea of conformity.
