Artist Statement
I am a mixed media artist, usually working in paper and cloth.
As you look at my art, I hope you’ll see the common theme of texture and color. I’m inspired by the symbols within traditional folk arts and those from my own surroundings in beautiful San Diego, California, plus the icons of Mexico and Asia. I love travel, and the thrill of discovering a new art technique, unusual color scheme, intricate pattern or fabulous piece of fabric.
I believe I’m living the life I was meant to life, that of an artist, art teacher, and partner of my beloved husband.

Wittfooth’s oil paintings explore disquieting themes of industry and nature, unhinged evolution, the clash of old ideologies with modern fears, and the growing shadow of the human footprint on the earth.
“I’m trying to produce work that projects the negative, sometimes ugly aspects of life as something that can be viewed as beautiful and appealing.”
I find the reflections of folk stories, music and painting in what I see around me. I want to express that connection through my work without being beholden to it.
Matt Duquette’s work is about the gritty memories that come with surviving life.
I have always been interested in art and crafts and used to make my own clothes and draw as a child.
