Artist Statement

My portfolio “Art Embracing Awareness” embodies the purpose of my work. My art’s essential aspect is its exploration of existential thoughts and inspirations and investigation of the interaction between and harmony of the spiritual and the physical worlds. It exists to connect with others in contemplation and peace. It is not static but invites interaction.

My aim is to capture the magic of life’s ephemeral yet eternal essence with engaging visuals that slowly pull viewers into a provocative and enigmatic world, and to assist viewers like a guide on a journey of expansion and awareness.

Half painting, half photographing, I use the ancient art of oil printing on watercolor paper to create my work. I design each image to evoke thoughts, emotions, and moods that inspire and unravel the subconscious.

I believe  that by creating and exhibiting Art, I contribute to the universal awakening of humanity, and help people to experience joy and peace in themselves while also removing and transforming the causes of prejudice and fear. It is through my artwork that I can help people grasp the nature of their sorrow and give them the ability to understand how to transform the negative and develop the positive in themselves.

It has never been a better time than now to share love and compassion with all. What life has taught us needs to be put back into the service of others.

About the Artist

Frantisek Strouhal was born in 1952 in the Czech Republic to a family of painters and other artists. Currently, he lives in Western Canada.

Introduced to photography while studying fashion design in college, Frantisek Strouhal is primarily self-taught. He learned the craft of photography and printing by studying many renowned photographers. While exploring the boundaries of the photographic medium, he cultivated his artistic nature and found himself strongly drawn to an alternative process called bromoil. After experimenting with and mastering bromoil, he was introduced to the carbon process, subsequently switching to the oil printing process, a more painterly medium using watercolor papers and lithography inks, which afforded him a new means of artistic expression that is forever evolving and parallels his spiritual evolution.

Frantisek Strouhal is admired internationally for his flawless use of this traditional 19th Century technique combined with his uniquely contemporary yet timeless artistic vision.

Frantisek Strouhal’s work explores the harmony of the spiritual and physical worlds. His surrealistic approach can only be described as psychologically engaging; in other words, it forces his viewers to ponder the deeper meaning of life.

In 2017, Frantisek Strouhal awarded Signature Member Status by the Federation of Canadian Artists’ Board of Governors (BOG). In 2020, he was appointed “Officier Academician” by Mondial Art Academy, in France, for his exemplary artistic achievements.

Frantisek Strouhal’s artworks have been received internationally in art galleries, exhibitions, and publications, and have won various awards and competitions. In addition, his work has been welcomed by artistic groups and communities around the world. Exhibiting in 2021 at Divine Fayerie in Castlegar, British Columbia, Frantisek Strouhal also has published a book of art, prose, and poems titled ILLUMINATIONS: Art Embracing Awareness.
