Artist Statement
My work illustrates a quest of finding one’s own place in the world and reflecting upon it. I use my camera to capture photographs that transcend beyond reality and show you a fleeting moment, one that like a memory… will never be remembered in its full clarity. By showing the vastness and seemingly emptiness of the scene I hope to provoke the viewer to connect with the photograph and see what is beyond the frame, the paradox of hope and hopelessness within one image. In my “passenger” series I am exploring landscape seen through a window. This represents seeing things through one’s own perspective. Putting in clear focus the foreground and abstracting the background allows for the background to become ambiguous and left up for interpretation by the viewer. All of my photographs explore the same vastness that lends room for thought, contemplation and possibly even a feeling of nostalgia.
