Han Sungpil


Artist Bio

Han Sungpil is one of Korea’s best known contemporary photographers. He was born in 1972 and began his career in photography while studying at the Chung-Ang University, Fine Arts Photography department in Seoul. After graduating, he joined Korea Fuji Film Co., Ltd., where he had several exhibitions and had the opportunity to work for professional photographers at the professional photography department. This working experience and his exhibitions gave him the opportunity to study abroad. In 2005, he finished a Master’s Degree in Curating Contemporary Design at Kingston University in London, in collaboration with the Design Museum, London. He also finished two art residency programs, the UNESCO-Aschberg Bursaries for Artists in Residence at Selasar Sunaryo Art Space, Indonesia; and the Korean Culture and Arts Foundation Grants for Artist in Residence at CAMAC in France in 2005. He has had solo exhibitions in Korea, Japan, Germany, Spain, the U.K and the U.S., including recent exhibitions at the Goethe Institute, Frankfurt-am-Main, Germany and the De Santos Gallery, Houston.
