Artist Bio

Born October 7th, 1964 and raised along the west shore of Lake Erie in Toledo, Ohio and LaSalle, Michigan. Matt Forderer’s Paintings and Collage show his enthusiasm for nature, the organic, the psychedelic, the galactic, and the Surrealistic.

Since moving to San Diego in 1986, he has found endless inspiration in the coastal region and desert as well as in all things nostalgic.

A self taught painter he cites as his growing list of influences many of the original surrealists including Salvador Dali, Max Ernst, Magritte, Tanguy, Matta and Miro. Other influences include Rosenquist, Motherwell, Rauschenberg, Chuck Close, Alex Grey. Miriam Wosk, Mark Ryden, Ernst Haeckel, The Clayton Brothers, Jeff Soto, Todd Schorr. Burning Man.

“I consider it a great gift that I have the ability to create surrealistic imagery and worlds never seen. I also consider it my duty to continue to explore this insight and bring as much of it as possible into fruition through my paintings, collage and future creative outlets. In my work I am not trying to convey a specific message, rather I am just trying to establish balance, To set the viewer at ease and encourage new thinking and contemplation…….. mind expansion.”
