There are no new songs. They’ve all been written. New songs are just old songs that have been recast, reshaped, added to or subtracted from. But rest assured, there are no new songs. And the Dum Dum Girls are okay with this.
The Dum Dum Girls know about Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door.” I’m sure they’ve seen Neil Young and the Band perform “Helpless.” They’ve probably heard Mazzy Star’s “Fade Into You.” But sometimes the three right chords are the three right chords. Play ’em straight and sing from the heart. “Coming Down” may not permeate the music listening world’s collective consciousness to the level of any of the former tracks, but for those that do hear it, I doubt they’ll find it any less revelatory.
