About the Artist

A recent graduate of Toronto’s Sheridan Institute of Art, Tessar Lo received his BAA in Illustration and immediately made plans to move to Los Angeles to pursue a career as an artist.

Born in 1989  in Indonesia and raised in Canada, Lo brings a very Eastern influenced style into his work. Lo has been influenced by artists such as Takashi Murakami and Yoshitomo Nara and by Japanese ukioyo-e printers and other traditional Asian techniques. He juxtaposes these traditional influences with current pop culture and music to create his own unique view of the world around him. (Le Basse Projects)

    Really enjoyed these fantastic images by Tessar Lo.
    Interesting play of scale and proportion! The images seemingly spell out a desire to bridge a very ancient, almost mythical rural world with an ultra contemporary, outer space exploring world:
    • The serene forests and villages suddenly spill out into outer space;
    • The airplane and the bridge motifs: the former connecting the outer space to perhaps some beautiful rustic destinations, the latter connecting some fantasy land to another over a river; similarly, the ever present folded paper creations in varied settings.
    • The omnipresent, gigantic, planet dwarfing (and almost spiritual) but sometimes tiny ant like Eleph-ants; the imagery of the boy and the girl playing/interacting with wild animals in a dream like state;
    • Giant tortoises perhaps evoking ancient myths of earth creation.

    Thats’a thoughtful response, very well observed. I am glad you enjoyed this work, which really does bear close attention. And the Artist is still only 21, it will be interesting to follow his development.
