Saana Wang ( b. Helsinki, 1979), lives and works in New York. Her “Hujialou” series is a captivating combination of documentary and staged photography referring to the district of the same name in eastern Beijing and depicting decrepit interiors that speak of times past. She documents both the rapid changes of urban scenery while capturing the residences that were once built for the working-class and followed the idea of conformity.
