Escape Into Life, online arts journal, pushes the boundaries of visual art and
literature, blending the two together until they become one poem – a work of Visual Poetry.
This collage is inspired by the historic Rankin House in Ripley, Ohio. The house once was a beacon for slaves crossing to freedom via the Ohio River. When it was safe to cross, the Rankins lighted a candle in the window. This area was the setting for the book "Uncle Tom's Cabin."
In a larger sense I see this work relating to all "crossings to freedom."
