Escape Into Life, online arts journal, pushes the boundaries of visual art and
literature, blending the two together until they become one poem – a work of Visual Poetry.
Maki Horanai is an artist presently living in the mountains of Australia. Born and raised in northern Japan, she lived her childhood in small villages by the sea. She has loved drawing and painting as long as she can remember. Maki has had exhibitions in Japan and Australia. Painting is her passion and working in ceramics is her joy. She has recently started to give more time to print-making and drawing.
Hillel Weintraub has been at various times of his life a child, student, teacher, writer and learning designer. He continues to be a child, student, and writer. Now working with Maki, they make books together, as well as ceramics and installations for their work. Inspired by Maki's paintings, he has begun to write poetry to accompany her work, though they feel that these poems are just an interpretation, not the interpretation and hope that everyone who sees her work will find their own poetry in them.
