Artist Bio

Rich in color, texture and symbols, Nicholas Wilton’s paintings reference a personal vocabulary of botanical forms, patterns and abstract designs. In addition to gallery exhibitions and the inclusion in numerous private collections, Nicholas Wilton’s paintings have been featured internationally in editorial and corporate print media.

His work has been the centerpiece of many successful branding campaigns, magazines, and bestselling book covers, award winning packaging and corporate installations. He recently designed a 42 cent stamp for the US Postal Service, “Celebrate’. Over the past 5 years Shinsei Bank in Japan has fully incorporated Nicholas’s work into its brand image. Public sculpture, atm machines, interior design of bank branches, wall décor, collateral materials and animations of his work have helped Shinsei Bank communicate their message of change to their customers.

He has illustrated the children’s books “Feathers and Fools” by Mem Fox, “Where Do the Butterflies Go When It Rains?” by Mae Garelick and “Right Outside My Window” by Mary Ann Hoberman. His paintings have appeared on numerous book covers and The Oprah Winfrey Show in conjunction with the national bestseller “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz.

Nicholas also is the founder of the Artplane Method, a system of fundamental painting and intuition principles that help enable the creative process. Nicholas and his wife and design partner, Jennie Oppenheimer teach painting workshops and seminars for corporate clients and arts organizations, both in the US and abroad, which explore the principles of art making both from a traditional and intuitive perspective.

He has received awards from the Marin Arts Council, Communication Arts, Print Magazine, New York Art Directors Club, A.I.G.A, RSVP Directory, and American Illustration. Nicholas Wilton’s work has graced the cover and also been featured in the international design annual, Communication Arts.

Nick finds great creative inspiration as an ultra-runner, spending many hours on the trails near his home in West Marin County in Northern California, where he lives with his wife and two daughters.
