Artist Statement
My work is a metaphysical embellishment of a hinterland dreamscape that has developed based on the necessity to escape from the complexities of life. Within this ethereal landscape, heroines and villainesses frolic and wander about, accompanied by their spirit animals that they maternally protect. These women possess a joyful serenity that comes only to those who feel they are in harmony with the universe. Congested majestic patterns lead the way to their mystical destination, in hopes of maintaining their world of peace and wisdom. They feel an inherent responsibility to nurture and harvest their fertile fields, as a way of giving prowess to the delicate earth that created them. These ornately fashioned mythological females are inspired from various forms of primeval folklore that resonate within my psyche. Like the many descendants that have designed our cultural identities, these warrior muses embody supernatural powers, myths, taboos and ritual ceremonies, as a way of renouncing adversity and the evil nature that continuously tries to control our society. They are on a didactic conquest to reach within their center and refuse to let others dictate their purpose for living. They fight for their integrity and they inspire me to live accordingly.
