House by Kindness

I’ve always loved songs that musically emphasize dance and rhythm but lyrically play towards melancholy and despondency. Something about a musical base that’s typically rooted in physicality and joy (dance) being bogged down with a little lyrical misery (or, conversely, the way the physical aspects of dance music bring a little levity to the occasionally overwhelming self-pity of the lyrics) just does it for me. It’s a fine line, but UK-based group Kindness walks it well on “House”, one of the standout tracks on their solid debut. Stream it below.
