Typographic Movie to the track “Academia” by Sia

I won’t post the first animation or short film that grabs my attention, but this work by graphic designer Steven Bussey is novel in its use of kinetic typography and motion graphics. We can thank Sia, Australian pop singer, for the curious, poetic lyrics to “Academia”. Bussey literally makes the vintage type dance all around–as the words assume various shapes and sizes. By presenting the Victorian type in fresh, harmonious frames, we are drawn both to the song and the type itself. How the two play off each other is what makes this video magical. The artist writes about the project:

I used Illustrator to lay out the entire type and did some of the illustrations myself like the shoe. The main animations are done in Flash CS4 and the wiggle and wignet are done in After Effects. This project was just for fun and completed in approxing a month from start to sinish.
