Artist Statement:

I started photography during high school. In those days only B&W was available and usual equipment was Russian enlarge devices and film cameras like Zenith. During the University I photographed occasionally, I can say I started again only about 3 years ago (since 2004). I prefer B&W, actually today I shoot only B&W on film or digital.

I use Bessa R3M which I find it extraordinary, a basic camera which combined with Nokton 40mm f1.4 gives wonderful results. For street photography it is a winner. Recently I purchase two new cameras Zeiss Ikon ZM and Hasselblad Xpan which I too intend to use for street photography despite the general perception of a landscape camera. I also shot with Nikon F80 and Nikon D300.

I try to read a lot and it is not that easy considering that photography is not yet consider an Art in my country and as such few magazines are available.

I like abstracts, street photo and portraits.

This is incredible..the old man playing chess with his hands at his face looks just like the one in the Pixar Digital Short!! I love how you can capture a moment so seemingly easy..it's amazing.

Excellent street photos, Serban. But is that guy on the bus giving you the finger…? 😉
