James Groleau was born in Lewiston, Maine, in 1960. After dicovering Carol Wax’s The Mezzotint: History and Technique, he taught himself this most difficult printmaking technique and has become a modern master at it.

He is the recipient of numerous awards, grants and fellowships, including a MacDowell Colony Fellowship in 2001. Groleau’s works are included in the collections of the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco; Portland Museum of Art, Portland, ME; Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland, OH; Oakland Museum of California; National Museum of Fine Art, Antwerp, Belgium; Esther Allen Greer Museum of Fine Arts, Rio Grande, OH; and the Janet Turner Print Museum, Chico, CA. He divides his time between San Francisco and coastal Maine. (bio)
