About the Project

Dune is a public interactive landscape that interacts with human behavior. This hybrid of nature and technology is composed of large amounts of fibers that brighten according to the sounds and motion of passing visitors.

Our most recent version is filled with hundreds of interactive lights and sounds. Dune investigates nature in a futuristic relation with urban space by means of looking, walking and interacting.

About Studio Roosegarde

In a time which shifts from analogue to digital Daan Roosegaarde creates interactive artworks which explore the dynamic relation between architecture, people and e-culture.

Studio Roosegaarde is the home of artist Daan Roosegaarde. It develops own interactive technologies and design. Functioning as an artistic laboratory alliances are made with whiz-kids, creative industry and cultural foundations.

Studio Roosegaarde is internationally known for its interactive artworks ‘Dune’ and ‘Sustainable Dance Floor’. Our goal is to create sensual and futuristic landscapes which engage you.

Recent artworks have been internationally exhibited at Rotterdam City of Architecture, Netherlands Media Art Institute, V2, Tate Modern London, Microwave Hong Kong, Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media and National Art Center Tokyo, Japan.

Recently Studio Roosegaarde launched its second studio in Shanghai, CN.

Artist Statement

Dune 4.2 is our new, permanent interactive landscape besides the river Maas in Rotterdam, NL. This public artwork of 60 meters utilizes less than 60 Watts while intuitively interacting with the behavior of its visitors; rendering it a sustainable as well as cutting-edge concept.

Here the people of Rotterdam have a daily ‘walk of light’; in this collective experience between humans, technology and landscape.

And here’s a peek at another Roosegaarde Intercative Art Project  – Lotus 7.0

Lotus 7.0 is a living wall made out of smart foils which fold open in response to human behavior. Walking by Lotus 7.0, hundreds of aluminium foils unfold themselves in an organic way, generating transparent voids between private and public.

Here physical walls become immaterial, through a poetic morphing of space and people.
